SMSBL Hall of Fame

Dave grew up in El Dorado County and played high school baseball at El Dorado and Ponderosa High Schools for his father Ray as a sophomore and junior on Ponderosa High School’s varsity team in 1975 and 1976 and as a senior at El Dorado High School in 1977, where Dave was All Conference, a Sacramento City AllMetro First Team selection as well as an All California High Schools Baseball Team Northern Division selection as a shortstop and pitcher.

Dave continued his love for baseball at Sacramento City College where he was the starting shortstop for a very competitive Sacramento City College Panthers team led by the legendary coach Jerry Weinstein. Dave received a baseball scholarship to Colorado State University in the WAC Conference where he was the starting shortstop and played at Colorado State with two former major league pitchers—Mark Knudsen and Marc Husiman who both pitched in the big leagues for over 10 years! His coach at Colorado State University was Tom Wheeler who was a long time college coach and professional baseball scout for numerous major league clubs.

Thanks to Rick Salmeri and Hal Young who asked Dave to play for the Tigers in SMSBL in 2006! Dave has been very lucky to play for some great teams and managers-Joe Soto and Pat Kelly for the A’s and Tribe, Mike Baker and Dave Kephart for the Braves and Pirates, Gary Stonebrook and Jim Tygrett-DeNuzzi as well as Bobby Brown for the Royals and Dan Wukmir for the Buzzards!
